Ahmedabad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) paid a heartfelt tribute to the Indian armed forces during the IPL 2025 closing ceremony. This event celebrated the courage and sacrifice of those who protect the nation. Renowned singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan honored the army with a special musical performance. Before he began, he spoke about Operation Sindoor—a testament to military valor—at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
An emotional video highlighted the immense dedication of the Indian army in safeguarding the country. The iconic "Jai Hind" rally cry echoed through the stadium as the Indian tricolor billowed proudly.
Shankar Mahadevan’s performance was a highlight, featuring popular patriotic songs like "Ae Watan," "Lehra Do," and "Kandho Se Milte Hain Kadam." The crowd responded joyfully, waving the tricolor and cheering for the armed forces. The atmosphere was electric, with enthusiastic fans and dancers adding to the celebration. Mahadevan’s sons, Shivam and Siddharth, also joined him on stage, enriching the moment with family warmth.
BCCI President Roger Binny watched the ceremony from the stands, appreciating the display of patriotism and pride.
In the match that followed, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced off in their pursuit of a maiden IPL title. Punjab led the league stage, while RCB finished second, proving to be a formidable force with a perfect away record this season.
Interestingly, sports events like IPL are increasingly becoming a platform for expressing national pride. In fact, a survey by Sports Business Journal noted that 78% of fans feel a stronger connection to their country when national themes are featured during sports events.
