Eric Foner, a historian, pointed out that while it’s important to honor achievements, glossing over past injustices can hinder true unity. He believes that every nation has aspects of both pride and shame, and addressing these can lead to stronger communities.

Not everyone feels the same about the upcoming celebrations. Tamika Middleton, a prominent activist, emphasizes the need for open discussions about racial history as the country celebrates its milestones. For her, true patriotism involves advocating for equality and addressing systemic issues like healthcare and housing.
