Welcome to the first edition of “Stealing Cars,” our column on all things related to Grand Theft Auto and Rockstar Games. Today, we’ve got exciting updates about the much-anticipated GTA 6, some intriguing leaks from GTA IV, and a few interesting tidbits for fans.
What’s Delaying GTA 6?
The wait for GTA 6 feels endless. GTA V debuted over ten years ago, leaving fans curious about what’s causing the delays. Former Rockstar developer Rob Carr has suggested that a significant factor might be a complete overhaul of the Rage engine, the technology that powers Rockstar’s open-world titles. In an interview, Carr mentioned that the advances in technology since GTA V have made this rebuild necessary. He noted, “I’ll be amazed if they didn’t,” rebuild it because it’s been so long since its last update.
Industry sources have mixed views on this. While they agreed that the engine gets updates, they highlighted that it’s more accurate to describe it as an evolution rather than a total rebuild. The blend of various projects, including Red Dead Redemption II, also plays a role in this development. As game-making is complex, it’s likely that multiple factors contribute to the delay.
New Findings from GTA IV Leaks
Meanwhile, new details are emerging from a recent leak of an old GTA IV beta build. Discoveries show elements like a theme park that may have been planned for the game. Some files indicate that there were once plans for rides that players could interact with. Former Rockstar employee Obbe Vermeij mentioned he doesn’t recall those plans but acknowledges that the assets appear designed for player use. Interestingly, similar features did find their way into GTA V, where players can enjoy roller coasters.
GTA V Leaving Game Pass
In a familiar pattern, GTA V is set to be removed from Xbox Game Pass. Historically, Rockstar has cycled this title in and out of the platform, often keeping it for about six months to a year. Currently, fans can enjoy the game until April 15. After that, it may return at a later date, but for now, it’s a reminder for casual gamers to take advantage of its availability.
Rumors Surrounding GTA 6
The rumor mill isn’t shy about spinning tales about GTA 6. One of the more outrageous claims suggests that the game’s saving and loading features are fundamentally broken due to staff changes. This sort of speculation often runs rampant, especially with major releases. It’s important to sift through these rumors critically; maintaining a sense of humor about them helps, too! Based on what we know, GTA 6 will almost certainly include save functions—no need for panic.
As we dive deeper into the world of Rockstar, the excitement only builds. Stay tuned for more insights, leaks, and discussions next month! We’re keen to hear your thoughts and ideas for names for this column.
