Capcom’s new game, Monster Hunter: Wilds, is coming out this week. Digital Foundry has analyzed how the game will perform on different consoles.

There are some concerns about its potential on the upcoming Switch 2. While we don’t know the Switch 2’s exact capabilities, leaked specifications suggest it might compete well with the PS4 Pro, possibly using DLSS upscaling.
This doesn’t mean Capcom will skip the Switch 2 port, but we should be cautious about performance expectations. The analysis shows the Xbox Series S version targets 30fps, though it sometimes drops below that, even hitting 25fps. There’s only one performance option available, which makes us wonder how the game might run on the Switch 2.
Performance-wise, the Series S version looks notably worse than both the Series X and PS5. Features like screen space reflections are missing, and textures appear quite blurry. The resolution maxes out at 1080p, down from 4K for the UI.
Despite these reductions, the game often struggles to maintain 30fps on the Series S. Unlocking the frame rate does little to help, too. Considering the rumored DLSS support, it’s viable that the Switch 2 could perform better than the Series S in some areas. However, we might have to adjust our expectations for frame rates and certain visual features.
Interestingly, Capcom chose not to port Monster Hunter: World to the Switch due to significant graphical limitations, so a Switch 2 release might happen before they consider bringing Wilds to that platform. We’ll have to see how this unfolds!
