The claims made by B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel have ignited a heated debate. They emerged following Israel’s military response to a deadly attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Palestinians and human rights groups worldwide have long made similar claims. In fact, the International Court of Justice is currently reviewing a genocide case filed against Israel by South Africa.

Historically, most Israeli critics have hesitated to make such serious allegations, especially in the context of the Holocaust and the ongoing conflict. Many Israelis believe the military actions are a justified reaction to attacks rather than an attempt at extermination.
