The Education Ministry just kicked off an exciting plan to bring artificial intelligence into schools across Israel. This initiative will run through 2025 and aims to enhance education for students in 4th to 12th grades from all backgrounds.
The plan includes training teachers, creating new learning materials, and rolling out specialized AI tools in classrooms. Over 400 major tech companies, like Google, Microsoft, and Apple, will help train around 3,000 mentors to guide schools in using AI effectively.
Among the new tools being introduced are:
- “Q”: A training bot for teaching responsible use of AI.
- Google Gemini Chat Assistant: A chat tool tailored to the Education Ministry’s needs.
- “Magic School”: A platform for planning lessons and assessing students.
- Minecraft Interface: A special version for younger students to engage with learning.
Throughout February, the Education Ministry will hold live broadcasts and competitions, culminating in a major event on February 27. There will also be webinars for teachers, with more than 70,000 expected to participate, focusing on different aspects of using AI in education.
Education Minister Yoav Kisch expressed enthusiasm for this unprecedented initiative, highlighting that it connects Israel’s education system with top tech companies. He emphasized the importance of preparing students for future challenges and stated that this program is more than just technology; it’s a shift in educational philosophy that values both AI and human intelligence.
Meir Shimoni, the Ministry’s Director-General, noted that the goal is to balance technology with essential human values in education. Teachers will receive advanced tools to help them focus on their key roles—teaching and mentoring—while AI serves as a supportive resource tailored to individual student needs.
Merav Zarbiv, the Director of the Innovation and Technology Division, mentioned that they’ve built a comprehensive system to support and monitor this integration, turning their vision into reality.
