IUP Baseball Dominates Fairmont State with Impressive 20-2 Victory: Game Highlights and Key Takeaways

INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP baseball team had an impressive showing against Fairmont State, winning 20-2 in a non-conference game. They started strong, scoring 19 runs in the first two innings alone.

Pitcher Bryce DeVan set the tone by getting three quick outs in the first two innings. In the bottom of the first, IUP surged ahead with 10 runs from nine hits, including two home runs.

Ricardo Aponte kicked things off by getting hit by a pitch, stealing second, and then scoring after Mitchell Grosch hit a homer. Mike Huber also contributed with a double down the left field line, scoring after Elijah Dunn’s single. The momentum continued as Cayden Bender walked, and Robert Carfagno singled. Both crossed the plate when Peyton Johnson hit a three-run homer, putting IUP up 6-0.

Aponte added to the score with an RBI single, bringing Au’sean Owens home. Huber’s second double brought in two more runs, leading the team to a 10-0 advantage by the end of the first inning.

The second inning saw IUP adding another nine runs from seven hits, even after Fairmont State switched pitchers. Bender tripled and scored when Carfagno had a single. Teague Hoover also contributed to the score before Aponte and Grosch added their hits, sealing a strong lead.

Fairmont State managed to score a run in the fourth and another in the eighth, but IUP wasn’t done. Dunn’s single brought him around to score again after a triple from Bender.
