IUP Baseball Wraps Up Regular Season with Thrilling Doubleheader Split Against Gannon

INDIANA, Pa. — The IUP baseball team wrapped up its regular season with a thrilling doubleheader against Gannon. In the first game, they made an impressive comeback, tying the score in the sixth inning before Cayden Bender delivered a walk-off single. However, their momentum slipped in game two, where, despite scoring eight runs in the last two innings, they ultimately fell short, ending the game at 13-10.

IUP concluded the season with a record of 24-25 overall and 17-11 in their conference.

Game One Highlights

Gannon took an early lead with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but IUP fought back. In the sixth inning, with two outs on the board, Mike Huber walked and advanced to second on Elijah Dunn’s single. A thrilling triple by Peyton Johnson drove both runners in, tying the game at 2-2.

In dramatic fashion, Bender hit a walk-off single in the eighth inning after the bases were loaded, securing the win for IUP.

Game Two Recap

The second game started off with Gannon taking a quick lead again. However, IUP answered back in the second inning when Bender doubled and scored on Ethan Schimony’s hit.

Despite a strong performance, IUP fell behind as Gannon scored consistently, including a three-run homer in the fifth. But they rallied in the late innings, with Nizeah Mummert and Gardner Fravel representing key players in the attack. The home team managed to close the gap significantly, especially with Kanick‘s two-RBI double in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to clinch the win.

As the team looks ahead, the PSAC postseason is just around the corner, starting May 7. This upcoming challenge brings the potential for exciting play and renewed determination. Many fans are eager to see how the team will perform in the playoffs after putting up a fierce fight in their final regular-season games.
