MANSFIELD, Pa. – In a thrilling match, Jess Davidson scored the decisive goal in overtime, leading the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Mansfield at Karl Van Norman Stadium.
With this victory, IUP’s record improves to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Mansfield now sits at 5-8, with a 1-4 conference record.
The game started slow, with neither team scoring in the first half. However, in the third quarter, Hayven Mumma netted a goal off a rebound, giving IUP a 1-0 edge at the 43:26 mark. Just over a minute later, Mansfield’s Ella du Plessis struck back, finding the net to equalize.
The rest of regulation went nail-bitingly scoreless, leading to overtime. Here, at 61:46, Davidson scored with assistance from Lilly Fringer on a penalty corner play, sealing the game.
IUP had the upper hand with 11 total shots and earned 11 penalty corners compared to Mansfield’s five. Goalkeeper Celeste Pagliaroli made five impressive saves, while Mansfield’s Lydia Miller recorded three.
Davidson’s goal was her seventh this season, with Mumma adding her third. As IUP prepares for their next match against East Stroudsburg at Miller Stadium, the team is gearing up for more challenges ahead.
