Jack White Celebrates ‘Sister’ Meg White: A Heartfelt Tribute at The White Stripes Rock Hall Induction

On Saturday, Iggy Pop, a true rock legend from Michigan, inducted The White Stripes into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. He kicked off his speech with a playful rendition of the famous riff from “Seven Nation Army.”

Iggy showered praise on drummer Meg White, highlighting her genuine smile and powerful drumming. He said, “Meg was vital to the music. Her energy helped launch Jack White’s career.” He then turned to Jack, praising his unique sound. “Jack can scream like an owl and strum like a hillbilly. His songwriting echoes the greats,” Iggy remarked, referencing The Who and The Beatles.

After a touching video tribute, Iggy called Jack White to the stage. Jack expressed gratitude to Iggy and shared that Meg couldn’t attend. He mentioned having spoken with her recently, saying she was thankful for the support over the years.

Jack also shared a quirky memory, noting that animals would often stare at him and Meg during their walks, even at the Detroit Zoo. “An elephant looked right at us once,” he said, which left the audience chuckling.

As Jack spoke, he listed his musical influences, including Loretta Lynn and Black Flag, illustrating the wide range of styles that shaped The White Stripes’ sound. He ended with a heartfelt story he wrote for Meg, illustrating their journey through music and friendship.

The ceremony honored other inductees as well, like Soundgarden, Bad Company, and Cyndi Lauper, making it a memorable night in rock history.

This year’s induction ceremony not only celebrated music but also reflected on the impact of bands in shaping the culture. The White Stripes, with their unique sound, changed the rock landscape in the early 2000s, a time when garage rock was resurging. Their story is a reminder of how powerful music can be in bringing people together, just as Jack shared about his and Meg’s experiences.
