Cam Little, a kicker for the Jacksonville Jaguars, recently wowed fans with a stunning 70-yard field goal during a preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Standing far from the goalpost and surrounded by teammates blocking his view, Little felt a thrill when the cheers erupted around him. It felt monumental—until he realized that preseason records don’t count. Yet, he remains hopeful about repeating this performance in the regular season.
“Now we just have to do it again,” Little said with a smile. His teammates were equally excited. Holder Logan Cooke raised his arms in celebration as the ball soared, and rookie star Travis Hunter joined the jubilation with a high-energy celebration on the field.
“When you have a kicker that can make those long attempts, it changes the game,” said Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence. He compared Little’s capabilities to those of Justin Tucker from the Baltimore Ravens, who holds the current NFL record with a 66-yard kick.
Little’s 70-yard attempt surpassed all previous attempts from other kickers in the league, showing promise for tremendous potential. In fact, according to a study by ESPN, there have been only eight attempts at 70 yards in NFL history, and none have succeeded. This emphasizes just how rare and exciting Little’s kick was.
Despite being a sixth-round draft pick from Arkansas in 2024, Little proved himself as a rookie, hitting 27 of 29 field goals and setting a franchise record with a 59-yard kick—tied with former kicker Josh Scobee. A humorous moment unfolded when Scobee, who attended the game, missed witnessing the record-breaking kick because he was in the restroom.
After the game, Little’s phone flooded with congratulatory messages. “I can’t keep up with all the replies!” he exclaimed, adding that he plans to keep the game ball, even if the Pro Football Hall of Fame calls for it. “That ball is mine,” he declared firmly.
The excitement surrounding Little’s kick sparked conversation on social media, with fans making comparisons to kickers of the past. While the NFL continues to evolve, kickers like Little are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
As football season approaches, fans are eager to see if this rising star can turn preseason magic into regular-season success. The potential of this rookie offers a glimmer of hope and excitement for the Jaguars as they head into the new season.
