James Cameron Announces Upcoming New Zealand Citizenship Amidst Trump’s Controversial Administration: ‘It’s Inescapable!’

James Cameron, the renowned filmmaker known for his epic movies, is ready for a big change. He’s about to become a citizen of New Zealand. Why? The recent political climate in the U.S. has influenced his decision. After Donald Trump was re-elected, Cameron felt a shift away from values he holds dear.

He shared his thoughts with a New Zealand media outlet, expressing concern over the direction America is heading. “I see a turn away from everything decent,” he said. For Cameron, the ideals that once represented America seem to be fading. He worries this shift benefits only a select few, rather than the nation as a whole.

Although he’s not sure if New Zealand will feel safer, he appreciates not having to constantly read about controversies in the news. “There’s something nice about the New Zealand outlets — at least they’ll put it on page three,” he commented. He finds relief in not seeing constant images of U.S. politics in the headlines, describing it as “like watching a car crash over and over.”

Cameron, who owns a farm in Wairarapa, plans to shoot his future projects in Wellington. He believes that moving to a new place means you should invest in that community. “If you’re going to uproot your family and move somewhere, you have to earn your right to be there,” he said.

In addition to his citizenship plans, Cameron also aims to nurture New Zealand’s film industry. In 2023, he expressed his desire to bring in fresh talent. “I love working here,” he said, emphasizing the importance of not just filmmakers, but also the behind-the-scenes workers. “We’ve got to have the new people — it’s all an art form.”
