Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals the Surprising Reasons Behind Her Years of Selling Pantyhose and Yogurt Despite a Successful Acting Career

Jamie Lee Curtis has a compelling reason for promoting products like L’EGGS pantyhose, Activia yogurt, and Hertz rental cars, even though she’s a well-known star.

In a recent interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes, she explained her choices. Despite starring in hits like A Fish Called Wanda and True Lies, she found value in doing commercials. These gigs allowed her to spend more time at home with her kids.

Curtis shared, “For the most part, because [doing the commercials] allowed me to stay home with my kids. I am an imperfect working mom. Because no working moms are perfect.”

She reflected on the sacrifices working mothers make: “We make it look good, we think we’ve done it, but the truth is we feel badly. I know how much time away from them I spent in pursuit of my own creativity.”

She has two children with her husband, Christopher Guest: Annie, adopted in 1986, and Ruby, adopted in 1988.

In a previous chat with NBC’s Today, Curtis opened up about how acting pulled her away from her family. Kristen Wiig even parodied her Activia ads on Saturday Night Live. Curtis humorously remarked, “It’s the reason that I sold yogurt that makes you s**t for seven years.”

Her honesty resonates with many. A survey from the Pew Research Center found that nearly 60% of working parents feel guilty about spending time away from their children. Curtis has tapped into that feeling, showing that even successful women face similar struggles.

Curtis’s journey in balancing career and family isn’t unique. Her mother, Janet Leigh, faced similar challenges. Despite the glamour of Hollywood, juggling roles between mother and actress has always been tough.

Recently, Curtis won her first Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once and received nominations for roles in The Last Showgirl. Upcoming projects include Freakier Friday and Ella McCay.

Her story reminds us that success in Hollywood can come with its own set of sacrifices. It’s a conversation worth having, especially as many navigate the tricky waters of work-life balance today.
