Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas didn’t hold back when she criticized former President Donald Trump’s comments about Greenland. She described his remarks as “really psychotic.” Trump suggested that the U.S. could gain control over Greenland “one way or the other,” sparking a heated response.
Crockett expressed her confusion about the conflict with Greenland, stating, “Why are we fighting with Greenland? We’re fighting with Canada, we’re fighting with Mexico, yet we’re in love with Putin? What is happening?” She called the situation a “terrible nightmare” and said she wanted to wake up from it.
During his speech, Trump claimed that he supported Greenland’s right to decide its own future but then shifted his tone. He stated, “We need [Greenland] really for international world security, and I think we’re going to get it. One way or the other, we’re going to get it.”
Trump had previously hinted at acquiring Greenland during his first term but only became more vocal about it after winning the election, labeling it an “absolute necessity.” He even suggested that force might be an option if necessary.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio later backed Trump’s stance, claiming that acquiring Greenland was crucial for U.S. national interests. However, the Danish government has shown no interest in selling the territory. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen firmly stated that Greenland “is not for sale.”
The reaction from Danish officials was blunt. Politician Anders Vistisen told Trump to “fuck off.” Meanwhile, Greenland’s Prime Minister Múte Egede was diplomatic but clear in his stance. He emphasized that while they value cooperation with the U.S., they do not wish to be part of it, saying, “We want to be clear. We don’t want to be Americans.”
