Javonte Williams Finds His Groove in Dallas
FRISCO, Texas — Javonte Williams has really made a name for himself this season with the Cowboys. After recovering from a serious knee injury in 2022, he became Dallas’s first free-agent signing in 2025. Now, he’s having the best season of his career, including his first 1,000-yard rushing season.
Despite the Cowboys’ ups and downs this year, Williams has been a standout player. He has significantly boosted Dallas’s running game, making a strong impact.
As the team gears up to face the Los Angeles Chargers, the Cowboys’ playoff hopes seem dim. With only three games left, Williams isn’t letting the future distract him. He’s focused on finishing the season strong.
“I haven’t thought that far yet,” Williams said. “Right now, I’m just focused on these last couple of games. It’s important to finish strong, and that’s my goal. But I love it here.”
Williams’s dedication is evident. Despite playing through a neck injury he sustained against the Minnesota Vikings, he has rushed for 1,113 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. These are career highs for him, more than double what the entire running back room achieved in 2024. He’s also contributed with 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
With three games left, Williams has the chance to add to those impressive stats before hitting free agency. While he has not forgotten the possibility of moving on, he has expressed his desire to stay in Dallas. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer also hopes to keep the young running back around for years.
“I don’t want to just chase the money,” Williams shared. “It’s important to be part of something special. I feel that here. Right now, I’m focusing on making plays and seeing where it leads.”
The final games are against the Chargers, Commanders, and Giants. Williams hopes these aren’t the last games he plays with the Cowboys. “I want to enjoy these final games,” he said. “We’ve been through so much, and I believe this is one of the most talented teams I’ve been part of. Playing well together is what matters.”
In the big picture, Williams’s leadership and performance could play a role in shaping the Cowboys’ future. With a few games left, Dallas will need his energy and skill to finish the season on a high note.
As the NFL season wraps up, it’s not just about individual stats. It’s about teamwork and the spirit of the game. That’s what Williams is all about.
