In addition to the chatter on social media, a critical text message about Tretter has been circulating, along with a document titled “Risk Assessment of NFLPA Interim Executive Director Candidates.” Rumors suggest Tretter might push for Matt Curtin, the president of NFL Players Inc., to step in as interim director while keeping Tretter in a key role.

Interestingly, the NFLPA itself has been quiet. President Jaylen Reeves-Maybin and Tretter haven’t made any public statements since Howell’s departure. The executive committee did assure players that they wouldn’t rush to judgment about Howell’s resignation.
