JCPS Board of Education Selects Firm to Lead Search for New Superintendent: What This Means for Our Schools

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – In a meeting on Wednesday night, the JCPS Board of Education decided to hire a national firm to find a new superintendent for the district.

The firm, Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates, based in Illinois, will lead the search for potential candidates.

This firm specializes in helping school districts identify leaders and will create a survey for JCPS families. The survey will ask for input on what qualities are important for the new superintendent.

A group of community members helped develop the survey questions, which the board approved during the meeting. JCPS Chief Communications Officer Carolyn Callahan mentioned that it will take a few days to translate the survey before it goes out.

Once ready, the survey will be available on the JCPS website and shared through text, email, newsletters, and social media.

Last year, Dr. Marty Pollio announced his retirement, effective at the end of this school year.

Board Chair Corrie Shull aims to have a new superintendent in place by July 1. If they don’t find a suitable candidate by then, an interim superintendent will be appointed.
