SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Junior running back Jeremiyah Love has won the 2025 Doak Walker Award. This award honors the best running back in college football, and it’s a big deal for Notre Dame, as Love is the first player from the school to earn it.
This season, Love put up impressive stats: he ran the ball 199 times for 1,372 yards and scored 18 touchdowns. He also caught 27 passes for 280 yards, bringing his total to 21 touchdowns. That’s a remarkable average of 6.9 yards per rush! What’s even more impressive is that he achieved this while sharing carries with fellow running back Jadarian Price, who also had a strong season with 674 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
Among the FBS players, Love stood out by being the only one who rushed for over 1,300 yards while sharing the backfield with another running back who had at least 600 yards. By the end of the regular season, he was ranked among the nation’s best in scoring, total touchdowns, and yards from scrimmage.
In a standout game against Syracuse, Love rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns in just eight carries, averaging an astounding 21.4 yards per carry. He is now one of only three players since 1996 to achieve such a feat. In another game against Stanford, he scored on the opening drive, making him the single-season leader in total touchdowns for Notre Dame, surpassing the legendary Jerome Bettis. With 18 rushing touchdowns, he tied the record for the most in a season.
Love’s remarkable performance in a game against No. 20 USC earned him the title of Associated Press National Player of the Week. He rushed for 228 yards on 24 carries, a new record for a single game at Notre Dame Stadium.
