Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, is ready to make big moves. He believes the team can’t afford to wait around anymore. “We’ve got to go this year,” he said, especially when it comes to players with injuries. Choosing players in the draft is crucial, and he’s clear about what needs to happen.
“We can’t just hold back a second-round pick,” Jones explained. “We need guys ready to play right away.” His urgency shows a true investment in the present, even if it means taking risks with the future.
Jones mentioned, “To push forward, I might have to borrow from the future.” This bold thinking is about winning now. He’s focused on improving the defense, which he sees as a significant area of need. It’s not just about finding one or two stars; the Cowboys need multiple solid players.
“We need more than just a couple of good players. It’s more complex than that,” he noted. The challenge of filling those gaps is significant, and Jones knows it won’t be easy.
“It’s a big challenge for us to be where we want to be defensively,” Jones said. While he recognizes the offensive side needs work too, he feels the urgency lies with the defense right now.
Interestingly, he believes some current players will shine under better circumstances. “There are players who looked better than they played last year. They will perform better this year because of the support around them,” he predicted.
Jones singled out a few players who he thinks are set for improvement in 2026, like DeMarvion Overshown and Shavon Revel, who should be healthier. He sees a bright future for them as they recover and adapt. “I believe in their potential,” he affirmed.
Jones also pointed to the success of NFL teams like the Patriots and Seahawks, who turned their fortunes around through a mix of good draft picks and solid free-agent signings. He believes the Cowboys can follow a similar path, though he acknowledged it might be tough to become one of the top defenses in the league. Still, he feels they don’t need to be the best to succeed in the playoffs.
“A defense that can support our offense, as we did last season, can still take us into the playoffs,” he said confidently. While he knows improvements are needed, he believes the team is capable of getting to that level.
In essence, Jones is calling for a strategic yet bold approach to the upcoming season. He’s optimistic about the Cowboys’ potential for growth, urging both fans and the team to remain hopeful for what’s ahead.
