In his final season with Florida State, Travis shined. He started 11 games and led the team to an impressive 11-0 record. He threw for 2,734 yards, 20 touchdowns, and only two interceptions, while also adding seven rushing scores. His efforts earned him a spot as a contender for the Heisman Trophy.

Travis suffered his injury in a game against North Alabama. This setback not only altered his future but also affected Florida State’s chances. They became the first undefeated Power Five conference champion to miss the College Football Playoff, with voters later admitting that Travis’s injury influenced their decision.

Despite the injury, the Jets took a chance on Travis, selecting him in the fifth round. However, some believe the Jets might not have been the ideal fit for him. "It is unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard," Jets general manager Darren Mougey said. "We support his decision and wish him only the best."
