Jets Make Big Moves: Jamin Davis Released and Six Players Waived—What It Means for the Team

The Jets have made some big changes recently. They released veteran linebacker Jamin Davis and waived six players: quarterback Adrian Martinez, defensive end Michael Fletcher, tackle Liam Forandel, tight end Zack Kuntz, defensive back Tanner McCalister, and running back Lawrance Toafili.

Jamin Davis, standing at 6’4″ and weighing 234 pounds, had a brief stint with the Jets after signing back in March. During preseason, he made 6 tackles and had 1 sack. Originally drafted in the first round (19th overall) by the Washington Commanders in 2021, Davis played nine games last season, splitting time between Washington and Minnesota and accumulating 18 tackles (12 solo) and 1 sack in 106 defensive snaps.

Adrian Martinez, a promising passer from Kansas State, had a mixed preseason. At 6’2″ and 220 pounds, he completed 58.8% of his passes, racking up 352 yards along with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions over three games. He played 49 college games from 2018 to 2022, finishing with impressive stats of 9,752 yards and 51 touchdowns. Even though he threw for 270 yards and 1 interception during the Jets’ preseason, he recently signed a reserve/futures deal with the team.

Michael Fletcher, a rookie from Appalachian State, had a limited but noteworthy preseason, making 2 tackles and recording 1 pass defend. He stands at 6’6″ and weighs 275 pounds, having showcased his skills by starting eight games last season, where he tallied 4 sacks.

Liam Fornadel, a 6’4″, 312-pound tackle, has quite a journey. Previously with the DC Defenders in the UFL and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL after going undrafted in 2022, he also had a stint with the Patriots practice squad last season before being released.

Zack Kuntz, a tight end who was a seventh-round pick from Penn State, had a quiet preseason, catching 2 passes for 15 yards.

Tanner McCalister from Ohio State made his mark with 6 tackles during preseason. After being on the Broncos’ active roster for part of the last season, he joined the Jets in late July.

Lawrance Toafili, a running back who’s 6’0″ and 185 pounds, stood out briefly with a 19-yard touchdown run against the Eagles in a preseason game. Averaging 5.3 yards per carry over the summer, Toafili had a solid college season, leading the Seminoles with 456 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns last year.

These roster moves reflect the Jets’ focus on honing their team’s competitiveness in this season.
