Jets Welcome Hall of Fame DE’s Son: A New Legacy Begins!

Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor was emotional on draft night, tears in his eyes, as he watched his son, Mason Taylor, get picked by the New York Jets. Mason, a former tight end for LSU, was drafted in the second round and will now follow in his father’s footsteps.

“The sun has set on my career, so it’s exciting to see him take this path,” Jason shared during a call with reporters. He couldn’t help but get choked up, reminiscing about the memories they created while he played for the Jets in 2010. He joked, “I have to say it: J-E-T-S! Jets, Jets, Jets!”

This moment is particularly special because the Taylor family’s relationship with the Jets has transformed over the years. Initially, Jason was loved by Dolphins fans but was seen as a rival by Jets supporters. After joining New York, many fans began to appreciate him, and now, with Mason on the team, it feels like a full circle moment.

Mason, who holds LSU’s record for receptions and receiving yards as a tight end, expressed surprise at being drafted by the Jets due to minimal contact during the pre-draft process. He shared fond memories of living in Manhattan when he was young. “It was fun exploring the city with my family,” he recalled. Now he feels excited for this new chapter in his life.

Jason reflected on his time in New York with warmth. “A part of my heart has always been there,” he said, acknowledging that his most significant successes happened while playing for the Jets. It’s incredible to think that the Jets have not made the playoffs since that season in 2010. Jason seemed surprised to learn this; he quickly stated, “Let’s change that.”

Family plays a vital role in both Mason and Jason’s lives. Mason’s uncle, Zach Thomas, also a legendary Dolphins player and Hall of Famer, attended Mason’s draft party, adding another layer of emotion to the occasion. “We’re all just so proud,” Jason added, noting how intensely intertwined their family legacies are in the NFL.

The atmosphere during Jets-Dolphins games will likely be charged with nostalgia and emotion, given the family ties and history involved. This unique blend of personal and professional pride exemplifies how sports can connect generations in unexpected ways.
