JioHotstar Takes Over: The Ultimate Entertainment Hub Combining Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema for Sports and Streaming in India!

JioStar, a collaboration between Reliance Jio and Disney, has launched JioHotstar, a new app that combines all entertainment and sports content from Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema. This platform aims to be a go-to space for over 50 crore subscribers in India.

The Hotstar app has been rebranded with a new name and logo. JioCinema remains active, directing users to JioHotstar for content. Current subscribers will have their plans transitioned to the new app when their billing cycle ends. Some free content, like sports events, will still be accessible.

Subscription plans start at ₹149 for three months. The basic mobile plan costs ₹499 per year and allows streaming in 720p on one device with ads. The Super plan at ₹75 per month or ₹899 per year offers 1080p for two devices. For a premium experience, the Premium plan costs ₹125 per month or ₹1,499 annually, providing ad-free 4K video, except during live sports.

With this merger, JioHotstar’s content library now features titles from Disney, Warner Bros, NBCUniversal, and more. You can find popular franchises like Marvel, Pixar, and National Geographic, as well as extensive sports coverage, including the IPL, FIFA World Cup, NBA, and the Olympics.

The app will also showcase movies and TV shows in 19 languages, promoting local creators through its Sparks section and featuring grassroots sports tournaments like the Indian Street Premier League.

According to the initial announcement, this partnership is valued at ₹70,352 crore (around $8.5 billion). Viacom18 holds 46.82% of the ownership, while Reliance Industries controls 16.34% and Disney has 36.84%.
