JMU Shines in JT Poston Intercollegiate: Our Team Takes Fourth Place!

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – The James Madison men’s golf team showcased strong talent at the JT Poston Intercollegiate, finishing fourth among 15 teams.

Senior Václav Tichý led the charge, shooting an impressive five-under 65 in the final round. He ended up tying for ninth place with a total score of 207 (-3) over three rounds on a challenging par-70 course.

The Dukes shot rounds of 285, 275, and 275, totaling 835 (-5). This solid performance reflects the team’s commitment and skill, making them competitive in the current season.

Alex Seibal also had a noteworthy outing, tying for 14th place. He recorded an even-par 70 and followed it up with a three-under 67, closing with a 72 for a solid overall performance.

Newcomers Michael Hake and Ethan Anderson made their marks by tying for 22nd with scores of 211 (+1). Hake improved significantly throughout the tournament, finishing with a career-low 67 in his final round. Anderson, playing in his first tournament for JMU, demonstrated promise with a 68 (-2) in his second round.

Junior Jonas DeLeon and senior Owen Kose participated as individuals, finishing tied for 39th and 48th, respectively. DeLeon’s total score was 215 (+5), while Kose stated at 217 (+7). Sophomore René Bergendi rounded out the team’s performance, finishing tied for 57th with a score of 218 (+8).

With the team taking a week off, they are set to return at the Nemacolin Invitational on Sept. 29-30 in Farmington, Pa.

In recent years, the JMU golf program has focused on building a competitive roster capable of making waves in the collegiate circuit. With the blend of experienced players and promising newcomers, there’s a strong sense of optimism for the season ahead. As the team prepares for its next challenge, the golf community looks forward to witnessing their growth on the course.
