John Schneider Breaks Silence: His Take on DK Metcalf’s Trade Request

Just a day after DK Metcalf’s trade request became public, Seahawks general manager John Schneider shared his thoughts on the situation during an appearance on Seattle Sports 710. While fans were curious about other team news, Metcalf’s request took center stage.

Schneider confirmed that the Seahawks are exploring trade options. “Everything’s in a very cordial, professional place. Obviously, DK has requested a trade, and we are entertaining that,” he stated. The team is in talks with multiple teams and considering their offers.

He emphasized that the priority is to do what’s best for both the Seahawks and Metcalf. “Our commitment is to Jody Allen and the 12s. Hopefully, both sides can find an ideal solution,” Schneider explained. He acknowledged that while it’s important to find a favorable outcome, they still have a talented player in Metcalf who could again be on their roster in 2025.

According to Dianna Russini from The Athletic, the Seahawks are asking for a first- and third-round pick in return for Metcalf. The wide receiver is reportedly seeking a contract extension worth around $30 million per year.

Schneider also discussed the potential impacts of a trade, noting that it would have financial implications for the team. He indicated that if a deal is going to happen, it will likely be before the NFL Draft in April. “You want to know what’s going on before draft time,” he said, acknowledging Metcalf’s importance to the team’s future plans.

Additionally, Schneider addressed the timing of the news leak regarding Metcalf, which coincided with the release of Tyler Lockett. He expressed disappointment that it overshadowed Lockett’s tribute events that day, stating it was “probably not intentional.”
