John Ternus reduces roadmap for Apple’s Vision products, according to report

Ming-Chi Kuo recently updated his roadmap for Apple’s Vision products, indicating a significant reduction in the lineup. This change appears to have been authorized by John Ternus.

Last June, Kuo reported that Apple was developing seven head-mounted wearables. Currently, he states that only two products remain in active development:

  • Display-less AI glasses, expected to launch in 2027
  • Display-equipped AR/XR smart glasses, now projected for 2029

Kuo noted that the display-equipped glasses will be powered by optical waveguides. This information was shared in a post on X, where Kuo mentioned that the overhaul was signed off by John Ternus.

This update removes all potential successors to the Vision Pro from Apple’s roadmap. Interestingly, Mark Gurman recently reported that Apple is working on a slimmer and lighter headset to succeed the $3,499 Vision Pro, with a projected release timeframe of 2028 or 2029. However, he had previously indicated that Apple had shifted its focus entirely to smart glasses.

There appears to be a discrepancy between Kuo’s information and Gurman’s, raising questions about whether Kuo’s insights may be outdated or if the Vision Pro successor is still in early development stages.

With WWDC approaching, there is anticipation for updates regarding the Vision Pro and visionOS 27, which may clarify Apple’s future plans in this area.
