AUBURNDALE, FL – The Johns Hopkins baseball team, ranked No. 2, faced a tough game against Chicago at the RussMatt Invitational, losing 6-2. This defeat brings their record to 13-4 for the season.
Starting pitcher William Jaun began strong, easily handling the first two innings. The Blue Jays scored first when Kieffer Ary hit an RBI triple, bringing Aaron Bock home for a 1-0 lead. However, Chicago quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI double from Michael Gladden.
Hopkins regained the lead in the fourth inning when Lukas Geer walked and later scored due to a wild pitch, making it 2-1. Unfortunately, Chicago took over from there. In the fifth inning, Max Wiesner pulled the Maroons even with an RBI single. They went on to score three more runs in the sixth, aided by two wild pitches from Hopkins, pushing the score to 5-2.
The Blue Jays struggled to respond after the fourth inning, and Chicago sealed the game with another run in the eighth, making it 6-2.
Hopkins will be back on Friday, March 20, for a doubleheader against Wesleyan at Babb Field, starting at noon.
