On February 9, actor Amit Sial joined a special cycling event in New Delhi, honoring our postmen who connect different parts of society. He rode alongside India Post staff and former basketball stars Divya and Prashanti Singh at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
Amit, famous for his roles in shows like Mirzapur and films like Maharani, participated with over 150 riders. They cycled around the iconic India Gate to highlight the importance of a balanced diet in the fight against obesity.
The cycling initiative, started by Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on December 17, promotes fitness and well-being across the country. The slogan, “Fitness ka dose, aadha ghanta roz,” emphasizes spending at least 30 minutes daily on fitness. So far, the program has taken place in about 3,500 locations, involving around 200,000 people, while also encouraging eco-friendly practices to combat air pollution.
Amit expressed his excitement about participating, saying, “Cycling on Delhi’s streets after a long time was fun. The weather was lovely as we rode under the sun.” He stressed the importance of a healthy lifestyle, noting that if parents focus on fitness, children will follow suit.
Divya Singh encouraged everyone to embrace healthy eating habits. She praised the postmen for their role in promoting fitness across the nation, stating, “It’s crucial for everyone to get active and prioritize fit food to combat obesity.”
Prashanti Singh echoed this sentiment, adding, “Staying fit is everyone’s duty. In our busy lives, it’s important to choose healthy foods.” She enjoyed the experience, reminiscing about the memories shared with the postmen.
Meanwhile, the event in Kolkata saw over 300 riders, including postmen and young athletes led by actor Rahul Bose. He fondly remembered cycling to school and emphasized how fitness has always been a part of his life.
In Gandhinagar, around 250 cyclists, including youth delegates from BIMSTEC nations, joined the cycling event, promoting a drug-free and healthier India, flagged off by Paralympian Paramjeet Singh.
This initiative has spread across various states and union territories, engaging cycling enthusiasts, athletes, and fitness advocates. The involvement of India Post personnel was particularly commendable, as they worked to promote fitness nationwide. The Sports Authority of India thanked postmaster generals for their efforts in encouraging healthy lifestyles among citizens.
Previous cycling events featured participation from the Indian Army, the CRPF, and several well-known sports personalities, highlighting the widespread support for this fitness movement. The ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, along with the Cycling Federation of India and other partners, reaching participants at various centers across the country.
