The Australian Local Government Association (ALGA) is holding a free webinar on July 30 that focuses on how local governments across Australia are tackling climate change. ALGA’s recent research sheds light on how these governments manage climate risks and adapt to changes.
This online event has two key sessions. The first runs from 2-3 PM and will dive into ALGA’s research findings and allow for discussion on the impacts of climate change. The second session, from 3-4 PM, will highlight tools and resources available to local governments, presented by ALGA and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment, and Water (DCCEEW).
Speakers include:
- Stephanie Lyons and Kieran Power from Nation Partners, who will discuss their groundbreaking research.
- Amy Crawford (CEO) and Eleanor Robson (Policy Director) from ALGA, sharing insights on how climate change impacts local governments and advocating for more support.
- Greta Bartels, a Senior Policy Officer from DCCEEW.
Recent statistics show that nearly 60% of Australians believe local governments should take the lead on climate initiatives. This reflects a broader shift towards grassroots efforts in climate adaptation.
It’s crucial for local governments to understand both the risks they face and the opportunities available. Sharing strategies and solutions can help ensure communities are better prepared.
