Becton is joining the national effort to highlight May as Mental Health Awareness Month. Mrs. Melissa Mitchell, the Student Assistance Coordinator, encourages everyone to focus on wellness this month. She says, “Taking care of yourself and checking in with others are important. Use healthy coping strategies, and don’t hesitate to reach out for help.”

This month, Becton is hosting a "Wellness Week" as part of its ongoing support for mental health. Organized by Mrs. Mitchell and Ms. Kristine Gaffney, the Speech-Language Pathologist, this initiative aims to help students and faculty embrace their mental well-being.

Let’s take a moment to listen to one another’s stories. Mrs. Mitchell emphasizes the need for teamwork between health professionals and educators. This partnership fosters a safe space where students can learn resilience and coping skills. “When teachers spot students in need, mental health experts can offer the right support,” she explains. As students encounter obstacles, they can find encouragement and solutions together.

Mental health plays a big role in school culture at Becton. Monthly calendars with themes and resources are sent out to both staff and families. This keeps everyone informed and supported. The school also has specialized teams focused on ensuring a positive environment for all students.
