BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Get ready for a creative burst! Binghamton University’s Department of Art and Design is hosting its tenth annual 24-Hour Draw-a-thon this weekend. It starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, and wraps up at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 22.
This year, the event takes place at Kilmer Mansion. It’s a special venue that adds charm to the competition. Organized by the Student Advisory Committee, this year’s Draw-a-thon has a twist. They’re also running a non-perishable food drive. Participants can give back while enjoying art.
Ten talented student artists will create large-scale drawings over 24 hours. It’s not just about creating art; it’s a chance for the community to watch creativity unfold live.
The competition features monetary prizes: $500 for the first place and $250 for second. A panel of judges will decide these winners. For a fun twist, there’s a third prize for art supplies that the public can vote on. Voting will take place during the closing reception on Sunday morning.
All ten artists will receive art supplies donated by Golden Artist Colors, a local paint company. Other sponsors include the Broome County Arts Council and Binghamton University’s Harpur Edge and Fleishman Career Center.
The event is free for everyone, though Kilmer Mansion will be closed from midnight to 7 a.m. for the artists’ privacy. Friends and family of the artists can still come during that time.
The prize ceremony and closing reception are set for Sunday, February 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Kilmer Mansion, 9 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905.
