COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is gearing up for its 19th annual One for One Holiday Food & Fund Drive this Wednesday. This event aims to collect food and funds to help families in need during the holidays and beyond.
With over 145 partner agencies and 200 schools, the Food Bank serves a vast area, covering 32 counties. In Boone County, more than 30 agencies, like Aging Best and Tiger Pantry, work with the Food Bank. Meanwhile, in Cole County, partners include the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities.
The Food Bank’s interactive map can guide you to nearby food distribution agencies or schools.
What’s urgently needed this season? Items such as canned proteins, fruits, vegetables, soups, boxed meals, and pasta are at the top of the list. According to recent surveys, nearly 1 in 3 families in Missouri face food insecurity, highlighting the importance of this drive.
You can donate food and funds at two locations: Columbia Mall and Buchheits in Jefferson City from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Every $25 you give can provide at least 100 meals, thanks to the Food Bank’s buying power.
This year, Columbia firefighters from IAFF Local 1055 will be volunteering, adding excitement with fire engines, music, and even a special appearance from Santa during the event. Community involvement like this is crucial; in 2022, similar drives fed thousands, and this year aims to do even more.
