Join Franklin Letter Carriers in the Fight Against Hunger: Annual Food Drive to Make a Difference!

The Franklin Food Pantry and local letter carriers teamed up for their annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive on May 10, 2025. This event brought in nearly 9,000 pounds of nonperishable food and household items—enough to provide about 7,500 meals to those in need.

This food drive is vital, especially now, as the demand for The Pantry’s services keeps rising. Anne McGillis, Operations Director, highlighted how essential community support is to tackle food insecurity. "It truly takes a village," she said, emphasizing the significant impact of local involvement.

Preparation for this year’s event started back in October 2024, with volunteers from schools, churches, and businesses getting together to assemble bundles for distribution. These contained instructions and bags provided by local companies. Just a week before the drive, letter carriers delivered these bundles to around 6,000 homes in Franklin.

On the day of the event, residents left their donations by their mailboxes for letter carriers to collect. Volunteers at the Franklin Senior Center organized these contributions for distribution through various programs, including Home Delivery and Weekend Backpacks.

The Pantry serves more than 1,800 people yearly, providing not just food, but also household essentials and resources. It partners with organizations like The Greater Boston Food Bank to stretch its buying power and resources.

According to recent data, food insecurity affects around 10% of households in Massachusetts, highlighting New England’s ongoing struggle with hunger. Community initiatives like "Stamp Out Hunger" play a crucial role in alleviating this issue. You can learn more about Franklin Food Pantry’s efforts at their official website.

For those who missed the drive, donations can still be made at the Pantry’s location or via their Amazon Wish List. The next "Stamp Out Hunger" is set for May 9, 2026, rain or shine, encouraging everyone to get involved and help make a difference.
