Join the Hope College Volleyball and Athletics teams in supporting the Community Action House’s Food Club. This initiative helps provide food for neighbors in need. You can donate non-perishable food items at the Flying Dutch matches on November 1st and November 7th. Your donations will directly support the Food Club in Holland.
Community Action House has been fighting hunger in the Holland area since 1969. Their Food Club operates as a grocery store where members shop based on their household size and income. This approach makes food accessible for families who need it most.
Here are some items that are especially needed:
- Healthy cooking oils (like olive and canola oil)
- Dried beans and lentils
- Broth and whole grain pasta
- Spices and corn masa
- Canned fruit in its own juice
- Low-sugar juice and coffee/tea
- Unsalted nuts and canned coconut milk
In recent years, food insecurity has become a critical issue. A 2022 study by Feeding America found that over 34 million Americans face hunger each year. Supporting local initiatives like Community Action House is more important than ever. Not only does it help stock food shelves, but it also builds community resilience and support.
So, if you’re attending a game, consider bringing a donation. Together, we can make a difference! For more about the Community Action House, check out their official website.
