Kentucky State Police (KSP) is kicking off its annual “Cram the Cruiser” food drive to help combat hunger across the state. This initiative runs until December 5 and encourages people to come together during the holiday season to support families in need.
Governor Andy Beshear emphasized the importance of this drive. He stated, “No family should go hungry, especially during the holidays. I’m proud to see Team Kentucky uniting to help our neighbors.”
The food drive is hosted by all 16 KSP posts, where troopers will collect non-perishable food items at various grocery stores and retail outlets. Essential items include canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, pasta, cereals, peanut butter, soups, and more.
You can also drop off food at local post locations. KSP will hold community events throughout the campaign to make donating easier. It’s a unique chance for locals to directly impact their community—every donation stays within the area it was collected.
KSP Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. remarked, “During the holidays, our mission is more than enforcing laws. We want everyone to share a meal with their families.”
Last year, KSP gathered over 204,000 pounds of food, with Post 16 leading the way by collecting 115,000 pounds. This shows how united communities can make a significant difference.
Food insecurity is a pressing issue. Studies show that in the U.S., one in nine people faces hunger. Initiatives like “Cram the Cruiser” not only provide immediate relief but also raise awareness about this ongoing challenge.
