After a remarkable 167 days in space, the NASA SpaceX Crew-11 team is back on Earth. They’ll hold a news conference on January 21 at 2:15 p.m. EST at the Johnson Space Center in Houston to share highlights from their mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
The crew includes NASA astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Platonov. They returned on January 15, splashing down near San Diego, and arrived in Houston for their post-flight evaluations.
During their expedition, the crew traveled nearly 71 million miles and completed over 2,670 orbits around Earth. They conducted numerous science experiments and technology demonstrations that could shape our understanding of life beyond our planet. For instance, studies on how plants grow in microgravity could lead to food solutions for long missions, such as those to Mars.

NASA’s Commercial Crew Program has transformed space travel, making it safer and more cost-effective. This initiative not only enhances American leadership in space exploration but also opens the ISS to more researchers and commercial ventures. For over 25 years, people have continuously lived and worked in the ISS, pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge as we prepare for future missions to the Moon and Mars.
Statistics reveal that as of 2023, more than 240 individuals have visited the ISS, illustrating how collaborative efforts in space are fostering a growing global interest in space exploration.
