NASA is excited to announce a news conference scheduled for 1:45 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, April 29. This event will take place at the Johnson Space Center in Houston and will focus on astronaut Anil Menon’s upcoming mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Following the conference, Menon will be available for interviews starting at 3 p.m. Media interested in attending the conference in person should contact NASA’s Johnson newsroom by April 27, while those wishing to join by phone must reach out by 9:45 a.m. on April 23.
Menon will be part of the Soyuz MS-29 mission, launching on Tuesday, July 14. This mission will take him, along with Russian cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina, to the ISS for an eight-month stay. It marks Menon’s first journey to space.
Selected as a NASA astronaut in 2021, Menon graduated with the 23rd astronaut class in 2024. He has an impressive background, including a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology from Harvard and both a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a medical degree from Stanford. Menon is also an emergency medicine physician and a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He actively practices medicine at the Texas Medical Center and teaches at the University of Texas’ residency program.
Before joining NASA, Menon worked with SpaceX, where he served as the first flight surgeon. He played a key role in launching the first crewed Dragon spacecraft on the Demo-2 mission in 2020.
The International Space Station has been continuously inhabited for over 25 years, serving as a vital platform for scientific research. Studies conducted there help address the challenges of long-duration spaceflight, laying the groundwork for future missions, including those to the Moon and Mars under the Artemis program.
