Pete Davidson is extending an open invitation to Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin of the Today show to join him on his Staten Island Ferry.
During a recent appearance on Today, Davidson talked about his animated comedy, “Dog Man.” Guthrie brought up the ferry he bought with former Saturday Night Live co-star Colin Jost for $280,000 back in 2022. The plan for the ferry is to turn it into a live entertainment venue.
While the ferry is getting a makeover, it has already served as the backdrop for Tommy Hilfiger’s fashion show in 2024 and will feature in the horror comedy film “Screamboat.” Davidson mentioned that he and Jost are actively discussing the ferry’s future but have encountered some challenges in moving their plans forward.
Guthrie then asked if they could do a live broadcast from the ferry. Davidson responded warmly, saying, “You can do that anytime. Anytime you guys want to come aboard.”
Jost has called the ferry purchase “the dumbest and least thought-through purchase” he’s made. He laughed about it, claiming it was a good deal by price per square foot in New York. His wife, Scarlett Johansson, seems to share his skepticism. On a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, she jokingly suggested that Jost should sell the ferry for scrap metal.
Johansson humorously appealed for help with their ferry investment. “If anybody out there would like to start a GoFundMe for the Staten Island Ferry, please be my guest,” she said. “Help our family.”
As they work on transforming the ferry, Davidson and Jost’s venture continues to spark interest and laughter. Who knows what will happen next on this floating stage?
