Plainfield, IL, is gearing up to make a difference this September. The community is hosting a food drive for National Hunger Action Month, aiming to support local food programs like Bags of Hope and the Plainfield Area Interfaith Food Pantry.
Several local organizations, including the Village of Plainfield and the C.W. Avery Family YMCA, are joining forces for this effort. They’re encouraging everyone to participate and donate to help those in need.
From now until September 30, residents can drop off food items at various locations, including:
- C.W. Avery Family YMCA
- Plainfield Area Public Library
- Plainfield Fire Protection District Station 2
- Plainfield School District 202 Administration Center
- Plainfield Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce
- Plainfield Township Community Center
- Prairie Activity & Recreation Center
- Village Hall
Each donation is valuable, with the pantries particularly looking for:
- Cereal
- Canned chicken and tuna
- Peanut butter and jelly
- Pasta and pasta sauce
- Rice and canned vegetables
- Snacks like granola bars
Food insecurity is a pressing issue. Recent statistics show that approximately 34 million people in the U.S. face hunger, including over 9 million children. With that in mind, every contribution matters, big or small.
Experts in the field emphasize that community involvement can transform lives. “When people come together, they create a powerful force for change,” says a local outreach coordinator. This food drive is a reminder that we all can play a part in combating hunger.
If you can’t donate food, consider volunteering your time to support these organizations. Every action, no matter how small, can help make a significant difference in someone’s life.
