Food and farming are central to many key debates in the EU. From protests about competition from imports to discussions on new food regulations and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy, this role offers a chance to cover significant stories that matter to people across the continent.
We need a reporter who can tackle a range of issues, including fertilizers, food labeling, food security, and support for farmers. If you have an eye for detail and a passion for hard-hitting journalism, we’d love to hear from you!
The ideal candidate will possess strong reporting skills and the ability to build valuable sources. Understanding how policy works and connecting with individuals in the EU, governments, and industry groups is crucial. This full-time position is based in our lively newsroom in Brussels.
Responsibilities:
- Generate news stories for both our subscription service and broader audience.
- Co-author a daily morning newsletter packed with essential updates.
- Produce in-depth articles that go beyond the typical niche audience.
- Establish a wide network of contacts.
- Collaborate with colleagues who cover trade, healthcare, climate, and other important areas.
- Represent Politico at events and discussions related to food and agriculture.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of three years in a newsroom setting.
- A genuine interest in food and agriculture policy.
- A proven ability to break news stories.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the willingness to delve deep into policy issues.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
