Sam McCaskill to Raise the Blue Chaos Flag for Home Opener

In an exciting kickoff to the new season, former Boise State defensive end Sam McCaskill will raise the Blue Chaos Flag before the Broncos take on Eastern Washington at Albertsons Stadium. This flag symbolizes the school spirit and energy that Broncos fans are known for.

McCaskill, who played for Boise State from 2012 to 2016, contributed significantly to the team’s success. He was a key player in the 2014 Fiesta Bowl, where his performance helped the Broncos secure a thrilling victory over No. 12 Arizona. Throughout his college career, he participated in 50 games and was honored as an All-Mountain West First Team player in 2016, leading the team with 14 tackles for loss.

During his senior year, McCaskill served as team captain, ending his Boise State journey with impressive stats: 100 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the start of the season, stating, “I am extremely grateful to help bring the noise to start the new season. I’m not one for recognition, but this is a true honor.”

After college, McCaskill signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings, competing to make the team in 2017.

Reflecting on the passionate fan base, he noted, “Bronco Nation embodies the spirit of Boise State. The Blue is a tremendous competitive advantage, but the noise is what really makes Albertsons Stadium a hostile environment.”

As the Broncos gear up for their home opener, McCaskill’s return adds an extra layer of excitement. His journey from player to fan favorite exemplifies the strong ties many have to Boise State—even beyond their playing days.
