The Women in Climate Action Walk is happening on Saturday, July 12, 2025, in Entebbe, Uganda. This event is organized by the Ministry of Water and Environment, specifically the Climate Change Department.
Participants will cover 10 kilometers, starting at the Kitubulu Forest Reserve. They’ll stroll past scenic spots like Anderita Beach and the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, eventually reaching Lake Victoria Primary School.
At the finish line, there will be speeches from community leaders discussing the importance of climate action. Activities include stretching exercises and networking, creating a space for participants to connect and share ideas.
This event aims to raise awareness about climate resilience and promote gender-focused environmental solutions. The walk will lead up to the Women in Climate Change Conference set for July 24, 2025, in Kampala. This conference will spotlight women’s leadership in climate action, focusing on local innovations and global policies.
Why This Matters
According to a 2021 report by the World Economic Forum, climate change disproportionately affects women, especially in developing countries. By empowering women through initiatives like this walk, we can create more effective solutions for environmental challenges.
Community Engagement
Social media reactions have been positive, with many expressing excitement over the collaboration between various organizations and community members. The #WICC hashtag is already gaining traction, fostering discussions around women’s roles in climate action.
Major sponsors include the Government of Uganda, Global Green Growth Institute, and Makerere University Business School. Their support highlights the collective effort needed to address environmental issues and ensure sustainable futures for generations to come.
