42nd Annual ACCESS Food Drive: Combating Weekend Hunger for Kids

September is Hunger Action Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about food insecurity. This year, ACCESS is ramping up its efforts with the 42nd annual food drive, which aims to tackle childhood hunger in our community.

The Rogue Powerpack program is central to this mission. It provides food to elementary school children in need on weekends throughout the school year. Last year, the program supported 827 kids across 30 local schools, delivering a whopping 120,000 meals. This year, ACCESS hopes to expand its reach and support 882 children.

Dana Daniels, the food programs director at ACCESS, emphasizes the importance of community involvement. “Every bit helps. For just $9 a weekend, you can provide meals and snacks to a child in need,” she said.

One parent shared her gratitude, noting how crucial the program has been for her family. “Groceries aren’t cheap, and this program has been a blessing,” she mentioned, highlighting real-life impacts of this initiative.

Despite challenges, the community consistently steps up to help those in need. “We are deeply grateful for the compassion shown to our neighbors,” Daniels added.
