HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men’s Golf team is gearing up for the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club this Monday. With a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 a.m., the Cougars are ready to tackle the 36 holes on the par-72 course.

The team aims to clinch their second consecutive title after a remarkable showing at the Argent Financial Classic in early September. During that event, they not only won the team championship but also saw Hudson Weibel take the individual title, finishing with a stunning 13-under 275.

Weibel reached his impressive score with a bogey-free final round of 66, highlighted by an eagle from 123 yards during a playoff. This incredible performance helped him become the first Cougar in recent history to shoot a 64 in a round since Wolfgang Glawe in the 2024 White Sands WVU Invitational.

This season looks promising for the Cougars under the guidance of Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke. The team features some exceptional talent, including Weibel, junior Chi Chun Chen, and sophomore Hsuan-Yi Chen. In fact, Weibel is currently leading the team with an average score of 67.67, closely followed by Chi Chun Chen at 69.33.

A newcomer to watch is Enrigue Karg, who transfers from Utah State. He’ll make his Houston debut this week, adding fresh energy to an already strong roster. Joining him is freshman Jayk Altic, who is also ready to shine after a standout junior career.

The competition will be fierce, with 14 teams joining the event, including Houston Christian and Rice. Social media buzz surrounding the tournament suggests a lot of excitement among fans eager to see how Houston performs. Hashtags like #BayouCityClassic are trending, drawing attention from across the community.

In addition to showcasing skill, these tournaments often foster camaraderie among teams and can lead to unexpected friendships. As the final tournament of the fall season approaches, many athletes discuss how these events provide them a chance to make lasting memories.

Following the Bayou City Classic, the Cougars will compete in the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas. As they gear up for these challenges, team spirits are high, fueled by their recent successes.
