VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The Valley City State University baseball team is gearing up for the North Star Athletic Association Preseason Classic on March 22 and 23 in Dickinson, N.D. They will take on Mayville State University, the (RV) University of Jamestown, and Dickinson State University. Each team will play four non-conference games, setting the stage for their upcoming 20-game conference schedule.

So far this season, the Vikings have a record of 13 wins and 12 losses. They recently returned from a spring break trip to Florida, where they participated in the RussMatt Invitational and posted an 8-7 record. They’ve had some thrilling moments, including two walk-off victories. One standout game was against Graceland University on February 7, where Hunter Logan’s single clinched a dramatic 13-12 win. They also triumphed over the University of Fort Lauderdale, with Brady Papineau driving in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Looking at their top players, Kaden Rozdeba is leading the team with a .393 batting average and 22 RBIs. He has two home runs, one triple, and nine doubles to his name, along with 24 hits. Jaden Babiuk isn’t far behind, boasting a .380 batting average with 35 hits and 22 runs, along with a strong on-base percentage of .472.

On the pitching side, Hunter Magnuson stands out with three wins and 33 strikeouts, while opposing batters average .302 against him. The team also has several pitchers, including Eli Chabot, Anthony Carrasquillo, and Takao Cookson, who have made key contributions with saves. Connor Martin leads the team with 36 strikeouts this season.

The Vikings are building momentum as they head into the classic and prepare to dive into their conference games.
