DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. – The NC State women’s golf team is gearing up for its second tournament of the spring at the Daniel Island Invitational, hosted by the College of Charleston. This tournament runs from Monday, February 24 to Tuesday, February 25.
NC State is among 14 teams competing in this event, with two representing the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The lineup includes five teams from the top 50 and six from the top 100 in national rankings.
The tournament will be held at the Daniel Island Club, a par 72 course measuring 6,026 yards. Teams will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, and after playing two rounds on that day, the final round will take place on Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.
Leading the pack for NC State is Marie Eline Madsen, who has been outstanding this season with an average score of 71.13. She has recorded nine rounds at par or better, including five rounds in the 60s. Recently, she finished tied for 16th with a score of 220 (76-71-71) at the Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico. In the Women’s Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), she sits at No. 125.
Following her is Lauren Olivares, with a solid scoring average of 72.47. She has impressive stats this season, with seven rounds at par or better and two in the 60s. Olivares just achieved her second consecutive top-five finish, scoring 212 (70-73-69) at the Collegiate Invitational. Currently, she ranks No. 49 in the WAGR.
Vania Simont is also a key player for the team, participating in her sixth tournament of the season. Her average score is 75.60, and she has consistently contributed to her team’s total in all rounds this season. Recently, she finished tied for 48th with a score of 233 (77-79-77).
Jaclyn Kenzel will make her season debut in the lineup. Her average score this year stands at 79.00. During her first tournament at the Cougar Classic, she finished with a score of 236 (79-77-80).
Caitlin Whitehead is also competing, marking her fourth tournament this season. She has an average score of 75.67 and recently placed 42nd at the Landfall Tradition with a score of 223 (72-73-78).
Finally, Lea Ludwig will be playing as an individual this week. She has an average score of 76.89 and just tied for 46th at the Collegiate Invitational with a score of 232 (73-80-79).
