DePaul Cross Country Heads to BIG EAST Championships
DePaul’s cross country team is gearing up for the BIG EAST Championships in Ashland, Nebraska, on Friday, October 31. The men’s race will start at 11:00 AM CT, followed by the women’s race at 11:50 AM CT. Fans can catch the action live on ESPN+.
Recently, the team showed strong performance at the Bradley Pink Invitational on October 17. On the women’s side, five runners achieved personal bests. Notably, Mohamed Abdullahi completed the men’s 8k in under 24 minutes—a remarkable feat that ranks as the second-best time in DePaul’s history for this distance.
Kyle Clark and Tessa Roe, strong finishers from the NIU Invite in early September, are returning to compete. Their presence will boost the team’s chances, especially after their recent successes.
All eleven BIG EAST teams will compete in the women’s 6k. Prominent teams include Georgetown, ranked 10th, and Villanova, ranked 14th. On the men’s side, Butler holds the 10th spot, while Georgetown is ranked at 30. Notably, St. John’s and UConn do not have men’s cross country teams.
The competition is crucial, as Blue Demon runners aim to secure spots for the NCAA Midwest Regional on November 14.
In an interesting trend, many fans and athletes are sharing their experiences on social media, highlighting the excitement and camaraderie of the event. Pre-race buzz can typically be seen on Twitter, where people post training updates and express support for their teams.
