The Edmonds Food Bank is teaming up with Lift Every Voice Legacy (LEVL) and the Edmonds Waterfront Center for the 2025 Juneteenth at the Beach event. Everyone is invited to join in from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 19 at the Edmonds Waterfront Center.
This year’s celebration will include live performances, a children’s book reading, and a screening of the film Hidden Figures. Plus, there will be free food for all attendees. To support the community, a food drive for the Edmonds Food Bank will also be part of the festivities.
Casey Davis, the Executive Director of the Edmonds Food Bank, expressed excitement about the collaboration. “This celebration unites us and highlights the values that strengthen our community,” he said. The partnership aligns well with LEVL’s vision of creating inclusive, just communities and the Edmonds Waterfront Center’s mission to support those facing food insecurity, especially seniors.
The food drive started on June 2, and community members can donate much-needed items throughout the event. Here are some suggested donations:
- Baking products (like oil, flour, sugar)
- Side dishes (such as mac and cheese, couscous)
- Dry soups (like ramen)
- Cereal
- Canned or dried fruit
Juneteenth is also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day. It marks a significant moment in history when, in 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to inform the last enslaved African Americans that they were free.
Juneteenth serves as a reminder of progress. Today, more people recognize the day’s importance. In a recent survey, 80% of Americans believe it should be a national holiday. Many social media users are sharing their plans and tributes, celebrating freedom and unity.
As we gather for Juneteenth at the Beach, let’s reflect on the journey towards justice and belonging for all. It’s a day to celebrate our shared history and look forward to a just future.
