Join the Celebration: Explore Mexico’s Diverse Cuisine at the Mexican Consulate and Artes de Mexico Festival!

SALT LAKE CITY — Get ready for a tasty experience! The Mexican Consulate, along with Artes de Mexico en Utah, is hosting a festival that celebrates Mexican food, including its delightful chocolate. This fun-filled event will take place on Saturday, August 2, from 4-9 p.m. at the Mexican Civic Center located at 155 S. 600 West.

Eduardo Baca, the consul general, shared that the goal of the festival is to highlight the diverse and rich food culture of Mexico. He noted that traditional Mexican cuisine is recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The festival will feature a variety of activities, including workshops for making traditional chocolate and corn tortillas. Visitors can enjoy dishes from food trucks and local restaurants while listening to traditional music and watching dance performances. “Food is a bridge that connects Mexico and Utah,” Baca added.

One standout activity is the chocolate workshop, hosted by Esmeralda and Rocío, two talented Zoque Indigenous women. They’ll share their expertise and traditions from 6-8 p.m. This unique opportunity lets participants learn about chocolate making directly from experts.

Food festivals have been gaining popularity across the U.S. According to a recent survey, nearly 70% of Americans enjoy attending food festivals to experience diverse cuisines and connect with their cultural roots. Events like this festival not only promote delicious food but also build community ties. So, mark your calendars for an evening of flavors, culture, and connection!
