Join the Celebration: How Franklin Food Pantry Honors Volunteers During National Volunteer Month

April is National Volunteer Month, and it’s the perfect time to celebrate the incredible work of volunteers. Recently, the Franklin Food Pantry hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon to honor those who give their time and energy to support the community.

Held on April 3, 2025, this event was made possible by local businesses and community contributions. Volunteers from places like Elizabeth’s Bagels, Starbucks, and local bakeries provided delicious food, making the luncheon a warm gathering of gratitude. Notable attendees included local leaders such as Massachusetts State Senator Becca Rausch and State Representative Jeff Roy, who both expressed their appreciation for the volunteers’ hard work.

Every week, over 120 volunteers help at the Franklin Food Pantry. Because of their dedication, the pantry can assist more than 850 families in need. They offer a range of vital services, including a mobile pantry and the Weekend Backpack Program for children. In 2024 alone, volunteers contributed over 12,000 hours, showcasing a tremendous commitment to helping others.

During the luncheon, Senator Rausch emphasized the importance of volunteers. “Your contributions are irreplaceable. You keep the pantry running smoothly and ensure that those in need receive the support they deserve,” she said.

Representative Roy presented the 2024 President’s Volunteer Service Awards to 39 outstanding volunteers. The Gold Award for those who volunteered more than 500 hours in a year went to Amber Baur. Others received Silver and Bronze Awards based on their hours served, recognizing the varied contributions of each individual.

Executive Director Tina Powderly expressed gratitude towards the volunteers, stating, “Every hour they give makes a real difference in our clients’ lives. They are the backbone of our organization.”

Throughout April, the Franklin Food Pantry will continue to celebrate its volunteers with special social media posts and highlights. These efforts not only acknowledge volunteer contributions but also encourage others to consider giving their time to help those in need.
